The Story

Rare breed Herdwick sheep are the native breed of the central and western Lake District and live on the highest of England’s mountains. They are extremely hardy and are managed in the traditional way on the Lake District fells that have been their home since the 12th Century.

The quality of the wool produced by Herdwick sheep is unique in its durability. It has protective properties, making it a very robust and hardy fabric for practical use. Herdwick sheep have been known to survive under blankets of snow for three days using only their thick coats as warmth and sustenance.
